Spring is finally here!
After a long, cold winter, the most appealing thing I can think of is strolling through the Sunnyvale Farmers Market on a warm Sunday morning…
And I tend to go a little crazy with the fruit…so, as you can probably imagine, I’ve had to find some pretty creative ways to use it!
I love incorporating fruit in my diet, because the vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties are all great for skin. And putting fresh fruit in water is my favorite way to take care of my skin with very little effort. You’ll be hydrating your skin while giving yourself a tasty alternative to soda! Plus, you can tailor your water to whatever skin concern you’re having.
I’ve put together three fruit-infused water recipes you can use to fight signs of aging, brighten your skin tone, and prevent breakouts.
1. Anti-Aging Watermelon Lime Water
Watermelon contains up to half your daily dose of lycopene — an antioxidant that can help protect from aging free-radicals, and even reduce your risk of getting cancer.
Watermelon also has vitamins A and C, which contribute to cell turnover and give you that glowing look.
The lime gives a fresh taste to the water while also boosting its vitamin C content.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- ½ gallon cold water
- 7-10 mint leaves
- 3 cups chopped watermelon
- 2 fresh limes, sliced
All you have to do is chop the watermelon into about 1 inch cubes, slice up your limes, and de-stem your mint.
Then, incorporate all the ingredients together into your container of choice.
Enjoy right away, or let it sit for a few hours to really let the ingredients combine. You’ll have a delicious drink that will help fight off signs of aging, give you glowing skin, and even help lower your risk of getting cancer!
2. “Fruit Pie” Water for Bright, Even Skin Tone
This combination of fruits and spices will help amp up your circulation and give you a healthy glow.
Having good circulation allows for nutrients to be delivered to your skin… leading to a bright, healthy complexion.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- ½ gallon cold water
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 5 strawberries, sliced
- 1 apple, cored and sliced
- Handful of fresh mint leaves
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Mix all the ingredients together for a fruity, spicy beverage that will give you the glow of a child who’s just eaten a piece of pie!
3. Fight Acne With “Tropical Vacation” Water
Peach and Kiwi have anti-inflammatory properties that help to fight off breakouts.
And raspberries have high levels of vitamin C, which can help fight off age spots and uneven skin tone. Plus, this one tastes just like a tropical vacation in a glass!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- ½ gallon cold water
- 2 kiwis, sliced
- A handful of raspberries
- 2 peaches, cut into wedges
Note: in all of these recipes, I like to make a big batch and keep it in my fridge for a couple of days…That way I have enough water to last me a while, and as it sits, the flavors infuse and become more potent.
Plus, you can replace the water in these recipes with sparkling water to make them more “soda-like.” And it might just help you kick the habit!
So the next time you’re feeling parched, reach for one of these refreshers to hydrate you — and give you healthier skin!
